About Dr. Vanderschelden

Dr. Benjamin Vanderschelden is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialized training in interventional psychiatry, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and esketamine therapy. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

He completed his Psychiatry Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Western Psychiatric Hospital, one of the nation’s leading mental health institutions. During his residency, he served as the lead resident physician in establishing the program’s ongoing Concentration in Interventional Psychiatry, which offers advanced training in TMS, esketamine, and other neuromodulation treatments. This leadership role reflects his commitment to expanding access to cutting-edge interventions for patients who need more than traditional medication options.

Dr. Vanderschelden has provided psychiatric care across diverse clinical environments—including outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, emergency departments, consultation-liaison services, and correctional facilities. 

This broad experience has equipped him with a unique ability to work effectively with individuals navigating complex mental health needs. He is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Clinical TMS Society and the International Society of ECT and Neurostimulation (ISEN). His dedication to advancing interventional psychiatry has earned him national recognition, including the Clinical TMS Society PULSES Course Scholarship and the ISEN Annual Meeting Travel Trainee Award.
