Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Explained
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (also commonly referred to as TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that is often used to treat cognitive conditions. The treatment process is relatively side effect-free compared to prescription medications that are commonly prescribed for patients struggling with depression, anxiety, and more. While undergoing TMS therapy, you will remain awake and alert as the power of magnetic pulses work to stimulate specific areas of the brain and improve its ability to function and balance internal chemicals. After each treatment session, you are free to drive, work, or resume any normal activities that you may have on your schedule.
Here at our clinic in Orange, we use TMS to treat the following conditions:
- Depression & Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Generalized anxiety & other anxiety disorders
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Not all patients who are experiencing these conditions are a good fit for TMS therapy. Visit us to discuss your eligibility for treatment and potential courses of care.
